‘An exceptional year’: Harris Academy Orpington celebrate suite of top grade GCSE results

Harris Academy Orpington students are celebrating achieving the best ever GCSE grades since the academy opened in 2016.

In total, 176 grades 7-9 were awarded, equivalent to the old A and A*.  Congratulations are due to the entire year group, among them Lucas Ling who scored six grade 9s and four grade 8s. He also got an A in his Additional Maths Level 3 qualification, which he took early.

We also wish to give a special mention to the following successful students:

  • Flavius Musat  who achieved an A in Additional Maths as well as six grade 9s and an 8 in his GCSEs.

  • Shyanne Archibald  who achieved a Distinction * in Performing Arts, along with two grade 9s and 4 grade 8s.

  • Miriam Ariane who joined the Academy from the Ukraine in Year 10 and achieved a Distinction in Performing Arts and Enterprise and Marketing, along with a grade 9, an 8 and four grade 7s.

  • Asim Syed who achieved a Distinction in Enterprise and Marketing and four grade 8s and 3 grade 7s.

  • Orestas Simkus who achieved a Distinction in Enterprise and Marketing, four grade 8s and four grade 7s.

  • Faith Adewunmi who achieved an impressive Distinction in Performing Arts and Hospitality and Catering, alongside two grade 9s in Science and four grade 8s.

Mr Carey, Head of Harris Academy Orpington, said:

“These results reflect incredibly hard work from students and staff, and the very special relationships between them. The students have trusted the expertise and experience of their teachers to lead them through the challenges of these examinations.

Although I am delighted with the quantity of top grades our students achieved, I can’t say I am too surprised: the quality of teaching has been exemplary with students getting early starts, late finishes, Saturday morning study sessions and even over the holidays. The hard work has well and truly paid off and we are excited to follow our students’ journeys into Post 16.”
