Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award Introduction Evening 13/10/2022
We are delighted to announce that the Academy has received funding to develop a Health Science specialism. We know that lots of our students and members of the local community are interested in becoming involved in the Health Sector, whether that is food, midwifery, medicine, sports physiotherapy or any other of the many career prospects in the Health sector. We are in the process of organising guest speakers, career opportunities and many other avenues to our Health Science Specialism and we will be giving more details shortly.
However, we do have an upcoming event:
Duke of Edinburgh Award for all students in Year 10 and Y11
We are launching the opportunity for all students in Year’s 10 and 11 to complete the Bronze Award this year. Mr Spooner who has successfully run the Duke of Edinburgh Award with Sixth Form students over many years, is looking to introduce the Bronze Award to our students during assemblies.
Come and join us for the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award Introduction Evening:
Thursday 13th October 2022 16.30pm – 17.30pm.
Year 10 & 11 students/parents/carers welcome.
We have a guest speaker form the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme to give some information and answer your questions.
“The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has helped countless young people on their sometimes difficult path to adulthood.” HRH The Duke of Edinburgh KG KT
For the past seven decades, the charity has inspired and transformed the lives of millions of young people from all walks of life. From volunteering to physical activities, life skills to expeditions, achieving a DofE Award is a passport to a brighter future, valued by employers and universities.
The world’s leading youth achievement award, the DofE in the UK is proud to be part of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, which drives and supports global growth.
At each level of the award, there are four main sections that the participants will need to complete, in order to achieve their full certificate:
- Volunteering: providing a service to the community.
- Physical: improving skills within a sport or personal fitness.
- Skills: developing practical skills such as cooking or learning to play an instrument.
- Expedition: planning and training for a hike and camping in the countryside.
For the volunteering, physical and skills sections of the award, students will need to choose the two activities they would like to complete for three months in total, and the remaining activity, for six months.
